Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team's NSIC opener versus Upper Iowa University has been moved to Sioux Falls due to poor weather in Fayette. The Wolves and Peacocks will face-off at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday in a pair of doubleheaders from Ronken Field on the campus of Augustana University.
The Wolves enter lead action with a 7-5 record overall this season. Following their spring trip to Tucson,
Lucas Lorenz and
Luke Chevalier were named the NSIC Player and Pitcher of the week. Lorenz also garnered regionally honors from the NCBWA for his week at the plate. Currently the Wolves have nine players hitting above .300 on the year as they look to set a starting lineup. Lorenz and
Ben Allen lead the team with 15 hits each, while
Jack Schmidt and
Seth Sullwold have tallied 12 and 11 respectively. All four players have appeared in all 12 games this season. As a team the Wolves are hitting .317 with 120 hits, 88 runs scored, 25 doubles, seven triples, 50 homeruns, and 80 RBI. The have been solid on defense with a .973 field percentage through the opening weeks of the year.
Chevalier and
Thomas Sertic led the team on the hill with two wins each this season. Chevalier also adds a save and a team leading 1.31 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Sertic is second on the team in ERA with a 2.79 mark this season.
Nick Hoffard,
Louie Carlos, and
Rylan Shimer hold the final three wins for NSU. As a staff the Wolves hold a 5.70 ERA with a .298 opponent batting average. They have combined for 61 strikeouts in 94.2 innings of work.
About Upper Iowa
- The Peacocks enter the weekend with a 5-7 record overall and 1-3 mark in league action after an opening series with Minnesota Duluth.
- Anthony Calton leads six hitters above .300 this season with a .469 mark. Calton has a team second best 15 hits and eight RBI.
- Alex George leads eight Peacocks with double-digit hits on the year, notching 18 in his first 12 starts of the season.
