Box Score Wayne, Neb. – On night one of their weekend series from the road, the Northern State women's basketball team was defeated by Wayne State 87-82. With the loss, the Wolves fall to 11-4 and 7-4 in the NSIC, while the Wildcats improve to 13-3 overall and 8-3 in league play.
Wayne State rallied early in the contest, gaining their largest lead of 15-2 in the first five minutes of action from Rice Auditorium. Northern State was able to escape the half with just a six-point deficit.
Both teams came out in the second half, shooting over 47.6 percent and notching 50 plus points in the final two quarters. NSU outscored Wayne State with 28 points in the remaining ten minutes, however it was not enough to mount a comeback over the top NSIC rival.
As a unit, the Wolves shot 42.3 percent from the floor, 26.7 percent from the three-point range and 85.7 percent from the foul line. Northern State recorded 36 points in the paint, 10 points off turnovers, 23 second chance points and a season-high 34 points off the bench.
Jill Conrad led the Wolves from the hardwood, hitting 9-of-15 from field goal range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line for 22 total points. The junior also claimed her third double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.
Miranda Ristau followed up with 21 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves.
Freshman
Sara Tvedt tallied a career-high 15 points, shooting 83.3 percent from the floor, while
Jessi Marti hit two three-pointers for a total of eight points on the night.
Northern State will continue action on the road tomorrow night, taking on Augustana University at 4 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
