Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team is set to close out the regular season with six games against the University of Mary and Minnesota Crookston. The Wolves open the week with the Marauders at home tomorrow, and then head to Crookston to round out the regular season on the road. Game times are in Aberdeen are set for 1 p.m., while Friday and Saturday's games will kick off at 2 p.m. in Crookston.
The Wolves enter the week 17-20 overall and 10-14 in the NSIC with a pair of big wins over No. 2 St. Cloud State University a weekend ago. Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Wolves sit tenth in the league and are within striking distance of the top eight and a coveted spot in the NSIC Tournament.
Jack Schmidt leads the NSU offense with a .455 average this season. The sophomore has tallied a team leading 65 hits, 40 runs scored, and 12 doubles and team second best 36 RBI.
Mikey Barreneche (.320),
Lucas Lorenz (.333),
Ben Allen (.347), and
Matt Stubbs (.383) make up the final Wolves hitting above .300 on the year. Northern is hitting .315 this season with 389 hits, 258 runs scored, 74 doubles, 11 triples, 36 homeruns, and 223 RBI.
After a solid week on the mound
Nick Hoffard leads the team with a 5-3 record in 2016. Hoffard tallied two wins over Minnesota State and the No. 2 Huskies throwing 14.1 innings and giving up just eight hits and two earned runs.
Luke Chevalier has also been crucial in relief leading the team with three saves on the year. Chevalier has tallied a team leading 2.53 ERA and has thrown 21.1 innings in ten appearances.
Colton Boucher leads the team with 48 strikeouts this season and has a 4-4 record overall.
About U-Mary
