Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team will face Minot State from Fossum Field this Friday and Saturday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate baseball action. The Wolves and Beavers will begin play at 10 a.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
The Wolves enter the weekend with an 11-16 record overall and 4-10 record in league action. The team has struggled to pull things together with runners on base and has given up 251 runs this season. They will look to make a run for the post-season as NSU sits 12
th in the league with 16 games remaining in the NSIC regular season.
Jack Schmidt is leading six Wolves hitting above .300 on the year with a .481 average. The sophomore has tallied a team leading 51 hits, 34 runs score, 32 RBI, and 11 doubles. Prior to the midweek doubleheader with Concordia-St. Paul, Schmidt was on a 19-game hit streak dating back to March 13
th versus Valley City.
Lucas Lorenz leads the team with nine homeruns this season, while
Matt Stubbs is close behind with eight. As a unit the Wolves are hitting .325 with 302 hits, 201 runs scored, 54 doubles, ten triples, 34 homeruns, and 177 RBI.
Northern is looking for some relief on the mound and a pitcher to lock-in for the remainder of 2016.
Colton Boucher,
Nick Hoffard, and
Marcus Manderbach are the three Wolves to record multiple victories this season. Boucher leads the team with 38 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched. Reliever
Luke Chevalier has made seven appearances this season, and is leading the staff with a 4.15 ERA. He is followed by senior
Dillon Lee with a 4.35 ERA who has seen time both as a reliever and a starter.

- The Beavers enter the weekend 4-23 overall and 1-12 in NSIC action, while on a current 13-game loss streak
- Jordan Schulz is leading six MSU starters hitting above .300 on the year with a .385 mark. Schulz has tallied a team leading 40 hits, 30 runs scored, 32 RBI, seven doubles, and five homeruns.
