Box Score Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball team defeated the Bemidji State Beavers 59-43 tonight on the road from the BSU Gymnasium. The Wolves improve to 14-4 overall and 10-3 in conference action, while the Beavers drop to 6-11 overall and 2-11 in the NSIC.
Both teams were slow to find the baskets in the first quarter, finishing out the first ten minutes of play with an 8-6 score in favor of the Wolves. Action picked up in the second quarter as NSU made it a 24-18 spread going into halftime. The Wolves found an offensive rhythm in the final two quarters, improving their second half shooting percentage to 40.0, up from 33.3 in the first half.
Jill Conrad recorded a team high 15 points for the Wolves, shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. The sophomore guard also picked up seven rebounds and two steals on the night.
Miranda Ristau recorded 10 of NSU's 21 points off of the bench. Ristau also picked up five rebounds and four assists for the Wolves in the victory.
Paige Waytashek and
Devon Brecke each tallied eight points, while
Alexis Tappe and
Bethany Crosswait each knocked in seven total.
As a unit, the Wolves recorded a better field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free-throw percentage over the Beavers, finishing 36.8 percent from the floor, 28.6 percent from the three-point arch and 88.2 from the line.
Bemidji guard Tatum Sheley recorded the lone double-double in the match-up, as she led the Beavers in total points and rebounds with 12 points and 10 boards.
Northern State will look to take on their North Division co-leaders, the University of Minnesota Crookston, tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. from the Lysaker Gymnasium, with the men's game to follow.
