Box Score 2 Winter Park, Fla. – Streak is the word of the weekend for Northern State University volleyball as they finished the Rollins College Invite 4-0 with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma and Southern New Hampshire University. Most notably was the Wolves four three set sweeps on the weekend, as NSU out-scored their opponents 300-164 in 12 sets.
The Wolves kept it rolling to open day two with another 3-0 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Northern took the game with set scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-18. With the win the Wolves improve to 3-0 on the year prior to their final game from Winter Park.
Cari McGarvie made it three straight as well with her third game in double digit kills. McGarvie tallied 12 in the game hitting .526 with two blocks.
Kelsey Chambers matched McGarvie with 12 kills of her own, along with two service aces and six digs.
Drew Smith proved to be a threat on multiple fronts as she tallied five kills, six digs, two blocks, and 33 assists in the win. Smith broke the 100 mark for season assists tallying her 119
th of the year.
Tori Biach also notched five kills in the win, while
Kellie Schmitt and
Mandy Kurosky each blasted six. Schmitt led the team hitting .667.
Renee Hoffman led the team with nine digs and added four assists.
The NSU defensive effort was strong holding Southeastern to a .093 attack percentage. SE combined for 22 kills, to the Wolves 46, and tallied 15 attack errors. The Savage Storm fought back in the third a decisive set, however Chambers fought back with three kills in the final points of play.
Cari McGarvie led the Wolves again in match two of the day, with a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire. McGarvie tallied 14 kills and five blocks in the Wolves 25-9, 25-10, and 25-19 wins.
Kelsey Chambers also racked up double digit kills for the second time on the day with 11 of her own, alongside six digs and a .529 attack percentage.
Drew Smith paced the Wolves with 41 assists, averaging 13.3 per set over the weekend. Smith added five digs in the match.
Renee Hoffman and
Annika van Oosbree covered ground for the Wolves recording 16 and 11 digs respectively, while Hoffman added four assists.
As a team, NSU hit .470 in the match led by
Kellie Schmitt with a .636 mark. Schmitt tallied nine kills, with
Mandy Kurosky and
Tori Biach close behind with seven and five respectively.
Lauren McCafferty made her first appearance of 2015, recording a service ace and block.
The Penmen were held to a .021 attack percentage and tallied a mere 22 kills, with 20 errors in the loss.
Northern returns to South Dakota next weekend for the Augustana Invitational, September 11-12. The Wolves will face off against Grand Valley State and Southwest Baptist in Friday action, and Black Hills State and Northwest Missouri State in Saturday play. The home opener for NSU volleyball is schedule for September 19 versus Minot State.
