RadioAberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball team returns home this weekend, for their last regular season games from Wachs Arena. NSU will tip off with St. Cloud State, Friday at 4 p.m., and Minnesota Duluth at 5 p.m., on Saturday.
Northern State struggled on the road last weekned, suffering two final second losses to Augustana College and Wayne State. The Wolves held on to the North Division top spot, with a two game lead over the second place Dragons.
Rachel Krogman leads the Wolves averaging 15.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, while sitting at the top of the league in offensive rebounds and second in rebounding. The Wolves continue to lead the nation in scoring defense at 50.6 points per game. In additon, NSU leads the conference in scoring defense (52.4), field goal percentage (33.5%), rebounding margin (+9.4), and assist/turnover ratio (1.4) in conference games. Northern must cut down on costly turnovers and play solid defense as each of their opponents shoot above 30 percent from the arch.
About St. Cloud StateThe St. Cloud State women are coming off a double overtime victory over the Upper Iowa Peacocks, 112-104. The Huskies are 13-9 overall and 9-9 in league play, sitting fourth in the NSIC North. Lexy Petermann leads the SCSU offense averaging 14.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Chelsea Nooker averages 12.5 points per game behind Peterman. As a team the Huskies average 71.6 points per game, and are shooting 41.4 percent from the floor. Karissa LeCaptain in sixth in the league in field goal percentage at 50.0 on the year.
Northern fell to St. Cloud State earlier this season 54-62. The Wolves are 9-4 all-time versus the Huskies.
About Minnesota DuluthMinnesota Duluth split last weekend at home against Upper Iowa and Winona State. The women recorded a 74-62 victory over the Peacocks and fell 47-67 to the Warriors. The Bulldogs are led by Taylor Meyer who averages 18.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Alongside Meyer is Jessica Nweman with a 13.4 points per game average, and Danielle Flood with 12.6 points per game. UMD leads the league in offensive rebounds at 15.2 per game. Meyer is second in the league in scoring and third in the league behind Krogman in rebounding.
Northern defeated Minnesota Duluth 63-46 earlier this season. NSU is 25-33 all-time versus the Bulldogs.
