RadioAberdeen, S.D. – The No. 17 Northern State University women's basketball team will remain at home this weekend versus Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., Friday versus the Mavericks, and 5 p.m., Saturday versus the Golden Bears.
The Wolves enter the weekend after a weekend home sweep versus Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Northern captured a 72-44 victory versus the Beavers, and a 66-42 defeat of the Golden Eagles. Senior
Rachel Krogman recorded a career high of 30 points versus the Golden Eagles, shattering her previous record of 25 against UMC a season ago. Krogman pushed her season total to a team leading 15.4 points per game.
Megan Mutchler led NSU versus the Beavers, tallying 14 points in the home win. Northern continues to play well from home as they are 11-0 this season. Rebounding and solid defense are the backbone of the Wolves team as leaders of the conference with an 11.2 rebound margin and 49.8 points per game defense, and leaders nation with a points defense at 48.5 points per game.
About Minnesota State Minnesota State is coming off a two win weekend versus Southwest Minnesota State and University of Sioux Falls. Aubrey Davis has been a force for the Mavericks as of late, averaging just shy of 19 points in their last four contests. MSU is receiving votes in this week's Top 25 coaches' poll.
All-Time NSU vs. MSU Northern is 5-7 all-time versus the Mavericks, with a 2-0 record a season ago. Northern took the regular season contest 79-63, before defeating the Mavericks in the NSIC tournament semi-finals 57-56. The Wolves utilized a balanced attack in each contest with multiple players in double-digit scoring. NSU also out-shot and out-rebounded MSU in each contest.
About Concordia-St. Paul Concordia is on a three game win streak in NSIC play. The Golden Bears are a game and a half out of third place in the NSIC South with some tough competition in the final weeks of play. Anika Whiting is the heart of the Golden Bear offense leading the team in both points and rebounds. She currently is leading scorer and rebounder all-time for CU.
All-Time NSU vs. CU The Wolves are 19-14 all-time against the Golden Bears, with a 1-1 record in 2013-14.
Sadie Stotesbery led the Wolves with 18 points and 13 rebounds, in Northern's 61-59 victory in the regular season. NSU then fell to CU in the championship round of the NSIC tournament. A rough game for Northern across the board, the Wolves shot 25.0 percent from the floor and gave up 14 turnovers.
