Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball team made it four straight wins tonight, as they defeated Minnesota Duluth 75-66 from Wachs Arena. The Wolves improve to 18-3 overall and 14-3 in the NSIC as the leaders of the north division.
Junior
Rachel Krogman was one point away from matching her career high of 25 points, as she was 9-17 from the floor totaling 24 on the night. Krogman also recorded a double-double with ten rebounds and five assists in the win. Right behind Krogman, was senior
Alison Kusler with 21 points after sitting out the last game due to an injury. Kusler looked health as ever adding a much needed spark to the Wolves line-up.
Northern has shot well from
Don Meyer Court, as this is the second game straight with a field goal percentage of over 50 percent. The squad notched a team total of 51.9 percent on the night. The Wolves knew defense was necessary to secure the victory and pulled down 32 defensive boards. The bread and butter for the Wolves this season has been solid play in the paint, and tonight was no different as the team out-rebounded their opponents 41-30 and scored 32 points from the square.
The Wolves racked up 20 total assists in the game, a season second best, led by junior
Kara Hofschild with eight. Hofschild notched four points, two steals and one block alongside her pungent passing. Although NSU led a majority of the game, the Bulldogs made it interesting with only nine and a half minutes to play off a Katrina Newman lay-up to bring the score to 50 all. UMD made a run scoring 11 points off NSU turnovers however it was not enough to earn the victory.
NSU will be back in action tomorrow night from Wachs Arena, for the much anticpated match up with St. Cloud State University. The Huskies edged out the Wolves in the first contest of the season from St. Cloud. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. between the two teams.
