Aberdeen, S.D. - After securing two wins a weekend ago, the Northern State University women's basketball team returns home this Friday and Saturday to take on Minnesota State Mankato and Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves will begin the weekend against the Mavericks with a 6 p.m. game start Friday evening, before taking on the Golden Bears beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Catch-Up with the Wolves

The Wolves prolonged their win streak to five games last weekend with victories over Southwest Minnesota State (57-46) and University of Sioux Falls (64-57). Alison Kusler led the team in scoring each night with 16 and 26 points. Kusler marked a career moment as she reached and surpassed 1,000 points against on the Cougars. As a team, NSU continues to hit the glass out-rebounding their opponents. After the wins a weekend ago the Wolves now sit atop the North Division standings. Northern now continues match-ups with the south division this weekend from Wachs Arena. Both the Mavericks and Golden Bears boast 6-2 NSIC records alongside the Wolves, setting up for some intense weekend competition.

Minnesota State

The Mavericks are currently ranked 17th in the nation entering this weekend's match-up. MSU recorded the second-most wins in school history a season ago. The Mavericks were 18-4 in conference play in 2012-13 and a perfect 15-0 from their home court. Minnesota State returns their four leading scorers from last years' squad with a wealth of experience among them.

Last Season

Minnesota State came out on top a season ago, defeating Northern 71-47. An all around team effort forced 18 NSU turnovers and rebounded for nearly ten more missed shots in the game. NSU shot a dismal 37.5% from the free-throw line.

Concordia-St. Paul

The Golden Bears return four starters, as well as key bench players, from a season ago and have seen time on the national rankings this season. CU claimed the regular season NSIC title in 2012-13 with a record of 19-3 in the conference. Concordia also brings five new faces to the conference for the 2013-14 season. CU was picked to yet again take the NSIC crown in the pre-season coaches poll.

Last Season

Concordia fell to the Wolves a season ago 50-63. NSU was led by Sadie Stotesbery with 16 points and seven rebounds. Alison Kusler notched an astonding eight assists in the game to lead the Wolves to victory.
