Marshall, Minn. – The Northern State University women's basketball team nabbed their fourth straight victory on the road against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University. In the 57-46 win, the Wolves improved to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC.

NSU was down by seven entering the second half of play, and scored a total of 35 points while holding SMSU to 17 to secure the victory in the final 20 minutes of competition. The Wolves shot 41 percent from the floor in the match-up led by Alison Kusler and Rachel Krogman with 16 points apiece. Krogman connected for 11 rebounds as well in the game to add to her season double-double list. Kusler now sits only 13 points away from reaching 1,000 in her career at NSU.

Northern continued to play well from the paint, racking up 38 points and 53 rebounds. The Wolves more than doubled the Mustang rebound total which sat at a low 25 on the night. MyKenzie Spaulding came out hot for the Wolves off the bench scoring eight of the team's ten bench points.  NSU was also able to tab 16 second chance points.

Much needed defensive was key for Northern as they held Southwest to a mere 18 percent from the field in the second half after giving up a total of 17 turnovers in the game. The Wolves continue to look for a helping hand from long range, as they connected for only one three point basket in the game off the hands of Kusler.

The women will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the Cougars of Sioux Falls beginning at 4 p.m. with the men to follow. Northern will then return home next weekend as they take on Minnesota State Mankato and Concordia-St. Paul from Wachs Arena.
