Northern Heads North for Weekend NSIC Play

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball team will be on the road this weekend as they take on Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State. The Wolves will begin the weekend with the Golden Eagles of UMC Friday night at 6 p.m. and then travel to the Beavers of BSU on Saturday night afternoon at 4 p.m..

Northern State is coming off two huge wins this weekend against Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. The victories boosted the Wolves win streak to seven in the NSIC. NSU has also recieved 38 votes in this week's top 25 coaches poll for the first time since 2010. In addition to their successes as a team Sadie Stotesbery was named both NSU Athlete of the Week and NSIC Player of the Week for her performances on the court averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Wolves currently sit atop the North Division standings and second in the NSIC overall just behind Wayne State.

Minnesota Crookston

Crookston is 2-2 since the holiday break, with the two losses coming last weekend against the Vikings and Wildcats. The Golden Eagles sit in last place in the NSIC North.

Last Match-up

Earlier this season the Wolves came out on top of the Golden Eagles from Aberdeen with a score of 74-71. NSU was led by senior Alison Kusler with a career high 29 points on the night. While UMC was led by Alexa Thielman with 23 points of her own. Each team saw three players in double-digit points in the game. Altough the Golden Eagles shot just .8 percent better from the floor the Wolves pulled in 11 more rebounds scoring 11 second chance points.

Bemidji State

Bemidji has lost three of their last four games since the holiday break to Winona State, Augustana, and Wayne State. BSU was only able to muster 31 points against visiting WSU Warriors. The Beavers are seventh in the North Division just above Minnesota Crookston.

Last Match-up

The Beavers fell to the Wolves in the first match-up of the NSIC season 53-66. The Wolves saw great play all around with Sadie Stotesbery and Kara Hofschild each scoring 11 points off the bench. The Wolves continued to rebound well in the game. The key for NSU was 28 points off of 25 Beaver turnovers in the game.
