Aberdeen, S.D. – With a score of 45-70, the Northern State University Wolves tallied their third straight win from home against Minnesota State University Moorhead. Northern is now 8-2 overall and 4-2 in NSIC play, while Moorhead sits at 6-4 on the year and 2-4 in the league.
Rachel Krogman was back for the Wolves notching another double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds, while shooting 70 percent from the floor. Adding just one point less at 14 total was
Alison Kusler, who also grabbed four rebounds and connected for two assists in the game. Kusler is now less than 30 points away from 1,000 with 971 total in her career.
Northern lead a majority of the game ending the first half up 29 to 22, and was able to take the largest lead of the game at 25 points scoring 41 in the second half. The Wolves improved their three point shooting immensely scoring a total of seven on the night. The proof was in the statistics for Northern as they stayed in single digit turnovers with seven and secured the NSIC win. A total of 17 NSU points came off 13 Dragon turnovers.
The Wolves had some much needed strength from the bench scoring 24 total points from
Sami Smith,
Kara Hofschild,
Katrina Kjerstad,
Mykenzie Spaulding, and
Lauren Deadrick. Both
Devon Brecke and
Alexis Tappe scored five in the game, while
Megan Mutchler and
MacKinzie Magner added seven. Starter
Paige Waytashek connected for two three pointers and eight points in the win.
Solid paint play continued for the squad as they out-rebounded the Dragons a staggering 48-39, and blocked six MSUM shots. Shooting proved to be the key of the game for the Wolves as they out the Dragons 40.3% to 20.8% from the floor.
NSU will be back in action after the holiday break on the road at Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls. The Wolves will take on the Mustangs January 3
rd at 6 p.m. and the Cougars January 4
th at 4 p.m. from Marshall and Sioux Falls.
