ABERDEEN, S.D. – In a battle of two teams that have experienced an entire two weeks, as the Huskies were on a four game win streak while the Wolves had lost three of their last four games, the game played out opposite of those story lines.

The Wolves (14-12, 9-11 NSIC) outscored the Huskies (13-11, 10-10 NSIC) 36-20 in the second half, leading to the 61-43 victory.

The first stanza ended with each team shooting below 29 percent with no Wolves player making more than one field goal as the Wolves led 25-23.

The tides changed in the second stanza as the Wolves used a 12-0 run to build the momentum in their favor to take charge in the contest.

Jenna Higgins hit a jumper to get the run started for two of her 12 points. After Mikayla Barondeau secure a steal, Sarah Hintz hit a lay up in the break to give the Wolves the six-point advantage.

As the momentum was starting to build, Alison Kusler lost her footing while keeping her dribble while able to get back on her feet, dishing to Barondeau who found an open Emily Becken in the corner, swishing the trey.

After a series of free throws and another Hintz lay in, the Wolves up 12, Becken took to a post move as Alison Kusler gave her the direct pass leading to the basket taking the 14 point lead with 13:50 remaining.

With the momentum entirely in the Wolves favor, they built a lead as large as 22 points before settling on the final 18 point advantage in the 61-43 victory, which pulled the Wolves within one game of the Huskies for the eighth and final spot in the NSIC conference tournament.

Sarah Hintz, the NSIC field goal percentage leader, hit 8-10 of her field goal attempts for 19 points to lead the Wolves. Becken added 14 along with 12 from Higgins, who also snagged six rebounds.

The Wolves held the Huskies to just 16 of 61 shooting for 26.2 percent while allowing just one player in double figures, Aaryn Booker with 11. Freshman Caitlin Farroh helped the cause with four blocks for the Wolves, three of which came on a single Huskies possession.

Northern State continues their hunt for the postseason tomorrow night as they host Concordia-St. Paul in a 6 p.m. match up at the Barnett Center.
