Wolves look to carry momentum into weekend

SETTING THE STAGE:
The Wolves are riding a two game win streak after defeating Southwest Minnesota State 69-55 in Marshall, Minn. last Saturday and picking up a non-conference victory over future NSIC foe Minot State, winning 81-61. In the game at SMSU, the Wolves were lead by Emily Becken with 20 points. In the victory over Minot State, the Wolves set a season high of 57.1 percent shooting while Sarah Hintz set a career high with 21 points on 9-10 shooting. The Wolves also dished out 25 assists in the contest, led with Emily Becken's seven.

About the Marauders:
The Marauders saw their eight game win streak snapped this last weekend in a 52-49 defeat to Minnesota State, shooting just 17.1 percent from the field. Previously, the Marauders took a 74-66 victory from Southwest Minnesota State. Ali Collins leads the Marauders with 11 points per game. Collins also leads with 3.25 assists per contest. Linda Murray leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per game, which is good for fifth in the NSIC. Mary ranks number one in the NSIC in rebound offense, securing 45.4 rebounds per game.

Last year vs the Marauders:
The Wolves swept Mary last year, picking up a 60-57 victory in Aberdeen while winning 75-66 in Bismarck. The game in Aberdeen, Emily Becken led with 16 points while Alison Kusler had 14 for the Wolves. In Bismarck and the game still in doubt, Becken hit 4-4 from the free throw line to help secure the Northern victory.

Who 2 Watch 4:
Emily Becken (PG 5-7 Sr. Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had another solid weekend for the Wolves, which snapped a three game losing streak. The Wolves leading scorer had a game high 20 points in a three point loss to the streaking Minnesota State Mavericks. In the Wolves 14 point victory over Southwest Minnesota State, Becken scored 16 points while hitting 7 of 8 at the free throw line. For the weekend, Becken averaged 18 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, while posting a solid 1.7 assist/turnover ratio.
