SPICER, Minn. -
Northern State senior Lucas Jung tossed a two-hit gem and the Wolves' offense erupted for 15 hits - six of which went for extra bases - as the Wolves finished out a four-game series sweep of the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles with a 7-0 blanking in Game 1 and a 13-10 slugfest in the finale.

With the series sweep, NSU's first since taking a pair of doubleheaders from UMC in 2008, the Wolves moved to 8-16 overall and 6-10 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.  UMC remains winless at 0-24 on the season and 0-16 in league action.

Jung turned in his second complete-game effort of the season and earned his second career shutout in the opener.  The Aberdeen native allowed just two hits - both to the Golden Eagles' lead-off hitter Josh Brehmer - and worked around three NSU defensive errors in the process.

The NSU offense backed up his effort, pounding out nine hits behind two-hit efforts from Jack Thompson, Evan Nolte and Adam BrionZach Miller, who homered in the first inning of Sunday's game, continued his streak on Monday, knocking in two runs with a first-inning single.

Seven of the nine players in the starting line-up scored for the Wolves.

The Wolves held a commanding 7-3 lead after three innings in Game 2, but watched the Golden Eagles come roaring back into the lead after a seven-run fourth.

Sophomore Thane Lees came on in the midst of the UMC outburst and threw five and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief ball to pick up the win, his third of the season.  Lees benefited from a lead-off solo home run in the fifth from Robbie Rocamora, a two-run seventh, and a UMC error that led to three unearned runs in the eighth.

Those three runs proved to be the difference in the game, as Lees set the Golden Eagles down in order in the top of the ninth to close out the win.

Rocamora provided the spark in the NSU line-up, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBIs.  Nolte also drove in four runs with a pair of sacrifice flies and a two-on, two-out single in the seventh.

The Wolves are now slated to take on Southwest Minnesota State on Wednesday.  Stay tuned to www.nsuwolveathletics.com for all the latest schedule updates.
