UMC breaks Northern State's eight-game win streak, give Wolves second home loss of season

ABERDEEN, S.D.- The Minnesota, Crookston women's basketball team snapped Northern State's eight-game winning streak handing the Wolves their second home loss of the season Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate action, 75-66.  
 
Tonight's loss marks the first Northern State has suffered to Minnesota, Crookston at home since the 1998-1999 season. 

NSU moves to 15-6 overall (12-5 NSIC); UMC improves to 10-10 (7-9 NSIC).

Emily Becken paced Northern State with 16 points, five assists and two steals. Jodi Reinschmidt poured in twelve points and pulled down eight rebounds while Brittany Euerle and Jacqee Jasinski each added nine.
 
UMC was nearly lights out in the second half, shooting 72 percent (13-18), and missing just five field goals. NSU shot just 29 percent in the half (10-34) and almost 41 percent on the game (27-66).
 
The first five minutes of the game consisted of a back and forth of two-point field goals between the Wolves and Golden Eagles with NSU fighting for each tie before a Bri Zabel three at the top of the key for Crookston gave the Golden Eagles an 11-8, three point advantage.
 
UMC continued their attack when they went on an 8-5 run with Jamie Zelinsky scoring six of the eight points.
 
The Wolves gained their first lead of the game at the 5:40 mark where Jodi Reinschmidt was fouled on a turnaround jumper in the paint. While she missed the extra point, NSU grabbed the offensive board and Emily Becken went right back inside to Reinschmidt who nailed another turnaround jumper.
 
Northern State entered  the break with a three-point, 37-34 lead. Jodi Reinschmidt led with 12 points and five rebounds including three of which were offensive. Becken passed out four assists in the half.
 
The Wolves did not hold their lead for long, however, as UMC jumped out to a 10-3 run fueled by two tres from Zabel to regain the lead at 46-40.
 
NSU trailed by as many as twelve points in the second half, and never regained the lead in the contest.
 
With just under three minutes remaining in the competition, a pair of made free-throws from Krista Rabenberg brought Northern State within its closest deficit of the half at 63-59.  UMC would answer back with its own duo from the charity stripe by Megan Eul followed by two more from Zabel.
 
With 27 seconds left in regulation, Sarah Hintz hit the final field goal of the game on a Jacqee Jasinski assist.
