Northern State snaps Concordia, St. Paul winning streak at 13 with 70-67 victory

ST. PAUL, Minn.-
Hitting a free-throw with just a second remaining in regulation, Northern State's Emily Becken tied her career high point total at 23 and led the Wolves to a 70-67 victory over Concordia, St. Paul this afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate action.
 
The win gives NSU the weekend sweep and improves their record to 18-7 overall and 15-6 in the NSIC; CU  snaps its 13-game winning streak, and moves to 16-9 (15-6 NSIC).
 
With just over three minutes left in the game, Becken hit two free-throws to give the Wolves an 11 point advantage at 58-47. Two back-to-back field goals from CU's Zoraa Quoie and Carissa Wolyniec within the next 45 seconds cut NSU's lead to just five with two minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the contest.
 
A minute later Becken hit a lay-up to put Northern State up by seven, and with just under a minute of play left, Jodi Reinschmidt knocked down two free-throws for the Wolves for a nine-point advantage.
 
CU was not about to go away, however, as Maurika Hickman hit a three and nailed a lay-up cutting the Wolves' lead to just four with 33 seconds left in the game. Two seconds later, Becken returned to the free-throw line and moved NSU back up by five at 64-58, and Jacqee Jasinski added two more from the charity stripe to give Northern State an eight point lead with 24 seconds left in the contest.
 
Hickman capitalized on a lay-up, free-throw combination with 14 seconds to cut NSU's lead back down to three. Becken sank two more free-throws with 11 seconds in the game, making the score 69-64, before CU's Rachel Hansen nailed a trey with just four seconds left in the game.
 
Leading by just two points, Becken returned to the free-throw line with one second left to sink one of two and give Northern State the victory by three points.
 
Also scoring a career-high on the night was freshman, Alison Kusler who poured in 15 points for the Wolves. Behind her was Krista Rabenberg with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Reinschmidt added seven points and 11 boards.
 
Northern State will travel to Bismarck for the final game of the regular season against U-Mary on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
