BOX SCORE
ABERDEEN, S.D.- A double-double of ten rebounds and season-high 21 points from
Krista Rabenberg helped the Northern State women's basketball team to a 67-54 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win over Augustana Friday night in Aberdeen.
NSU improves to 16-6 and 13-5 in the NSIC, while Augustana moves to 18-7, 11-5 in the NSIC.
Rabenberg's performance marks her first double-double of the season.
The Wolves, who sit right below Augie at sixth in regional rankings, held the Vikings to their lowest point total of the season which was previously held at 56 in the Vikings' loss to Southwest Minnesota State in December. NSU's defense also held Megan Doyle to just nine points—the first time this season she has not scored double digits.
NSU jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first half fueled by two lay ups from
Jodi Reinschmidt and a three-point play from Rabenberg within the first four minutes. Augie answered back with its own small run with a jumper from Megan Doyle and a three from Teri VerSteeg.
Nailing two sets of free-throws within a minute, Rabenberg helped extend the Wolves' lead to 15 points at the 8:45 mark.
Northern's lead stayed in double digits until 4:54 when a score in the paint from Lydia Nelson put the Vikings within eight points of the Wolves. A jumper from Rabenberg and a trey from
Alison Kusler put NSU's lead back at 13 points with a 34-21 lead.
The Wolves entered the break with a 43-27 lead paced by Rabenberg with 15 points and five rebounds—all which were defensive.
Emily Becken and Reinschmidt followed with nine scores each.
Augie came out of the break firing making a 10-2 in the first four minutes of playing cutting Northern's lead to just 11.
A Reinschmidt jumper at 15:29 followed by a lay-up from Becken half a minute later extended the Wolves' lead back to 15 at 51-36.
Augie never got closer than 12 points the rest of the night and shot just 33 percent (19-56) in the contest.
Reinschmidt went 7-12 on the night and 3-4 from the free throw line finishing with 17 points, four assists and three steals. Becken poured in 11 points and five assists in the contest while
Jacqee Jasinski added nine points and three rebounds for the Wolves.
The Wolves will look to earn a victory tomorrow night when they take on No. 9 Wayne State at 6 p.m. at Wachs Arena.
