Wolves Turnovers lead to Bulldog Victory

Box Score DULUTH, MINN. – A night after the Wolves committed just 13 turnovers in a victory over Bemidji State, the visiting Wolves (7-4, 3-3 NSIC) committed 26 turnovers in a 68-52 loss at the University of Minnesota-Duluth (7-3, 4-2 NSIC).

The Bulldogs took control in the onset when Courtney Doucette made a three-point basked 16 seconds into the game.

The Bulldogs opened a 14-4 lead on the visiting Wolves by forcing five turnovers in the first 6:32 of the opening stanza.

Northern State's Emily Becken would have an answer when she converted on a three point basket just 14 seconds later.

However, the seven point deficit, is the closest the Wolves would get the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs ended the first half with a 31-16 lead.

The Bulldogs would use a 20-4 run in the second half to build a 27 point lead at 53-26.

The Wolves outrebounded the Bulldogs 31-27 as freshman Caitlin Farroh and junior Sarah Hintz each lead with six apiece. Alison Kusler and Mikayla Barondeau each had four apiece.

Senior Emily Becken led the Wolves with 8-11 shooting, scoring 17 points. Senior Jenna Higgins was the only other Wolves player in double figures with 11 points.

The Wolves were hampered with committing 26 turnovers in the game, compared to 17 from the Bulldogs. 19 of the 26 turnovers came from the Wolves starting five.

The Wolves will return home on Monday, January 2 to take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks in the first game of the New Year. Coach Curt Fredrickson will be looking for his 700th career win in that game. The game is slated to start at 6 p.m. at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen.
