SETTING THE STAGE: The Northern State women's basketball team (11-5, 8-4 NSIC) will wrap up the first half of Northern Sun Intercollegiate action when they host the University of Mary (9-7, 6-6 NSIC) on Saturday. Tip-off for both games is 6 p.m.
THE SERIES: Since the 2006-07 season, Northern State has dominated the series against Mary notching a 5-3 record. For the first three seasons of the series, each team took a win. Northern State is 3-1 at Mary and 2-2 at home. Last season NSU took both wins from the Maruders including a 81-55 victory at Wachs Arena on February 13.
Emily Becken led Northern State with 19 points and six rebounds.
SIZING UP THE COMPETITION: The Maruders, like the Wolves, hosted their first home series of the new year when Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State came to town. The Maruders went 1-1 on the weekend defeating MSU and falling to SMSU.
Bench play lifted the Marauders to a 63-57 win over Minnesota State University on Saturday. Lindsey Sand scored 11 points off the bench and fellow reserves Cassandra Kelsch and McKenzie Foster contributed 10 points apiece. Kelsch scored all her points after intermission and the U-Mary bench outscored MSU 26-12 in the second half. Ali Collins added 11 points in the victory. On the weekend, Collins led U-Mary in scoring after posting 20 against Southwest Minnesota State, and averaging15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. However, the Mustangs handed Mary an 11-point loss in a 80-69 final decision.
LAST TIME OUT: The Wolves earned their first home sweep of the new year when they defeated Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday in a 70-57 decision, and topped Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, 67-56.
By defeating the Mavericks, the Wolves snap a five-game losing streak against MSU which includes two losses to the team last season.
Jodi Reinschmidt finished with a game-high 27 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, while
Emily Becken had a career-high 21 points in the game.
Krista Rabenberg poured in 12 points and four boards.
On Saturday, Northern State used a balanced attack getting double-digit contributions from four players in the Wolves' win over SMSU.
Reinschmidt led Northern State with 16 points and nine rebounds, followed by Rabenberg with 15 points and 6 boards while Becken and
Alison Kusler poured in 13 points each. Kusler's 13 points was a career high for the freshman.
REINSCHMIDT EARNS NSIC HONORS: After leading Northern State to its first home sweep of the new year, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference officials have named
Jodi Reinschmidt as the women's basketball player of the week.
Reinschmidt finished the weekend with 43 total points in Northern State's wins over Minnesota State Southwest Minnesota State. Reinschmidt averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds on the weekend including a NSIC-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds, and four assists on Friday going 11-16 (68%) from the field. This marks the second time this season Reinschmidt has been named NSIC Player of the Week (Dec. 6, 2010).
HIGHS FOR REINSCHMIDT: While she may not have set the record for most points scored in an indvidual game (held by Maurie Simon with 44 points in 1975), Reinschmidt's career-high 38 points in Saturday's win over Minnesota, Crookston is the most points scored by an NSU player since Jammie Coyle's 37-point performance on Nov. 7, 1999 against Francis Marion University. Reinschmidt's contribution sets her at top of the NSIC single-game season high point total as well as the single-game season high for field goals made with 17.

Jodi Reinschmidt, averaging 15.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, averaging 18.8 points since win at Upper Iowa.
•Mary: Shaunna Knife, averaging 10.4 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, and 2.3 assists per game. Shooting 41 percent on the year.
GOOD DEFENSE: Northern currently ranks second in conference standings behind Wayne State in points allowed giving up an average of just 61. 5 points a game. The Wolves also sit second in field goal percentage at 46.5 percent.
