BOX SCORE
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball team used marksman-like shooting from outside and limited turnovers on offense to score a season-high 90 points in a 90-55 rout of Upper Iowa University Sunday afternoon at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D.
The win improves the Wolves to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC.
Northern State shot an astonishing 70% (14-20) from behind the three-point line and their 14 made three-point baskets tied a school record that had stood since the 1999-2000 season.
They opened up the first half on fire, shooting 53.1% from the field (17-32) including 5-6 from long range. They coupled their stellar shooting effort with only one first half offensive turnover in building a 25-point halftime lead 46-21.
The second half didn't slow down the Wolves as they continued their offensive output of the first half by shooting 14-33 from the field (42.4%) and made 9-14 shots from outside. The number of three-pointers they made in the second half would stand as the second-most they had made all season in any one game.
The Wolves put five players in double figures for the first time this season with
Jodi Reinschmidt, Mikayla Barondeau, Emily Becken, Kathleen Reynolds, and
Jenna Higgins all scoring more than 10 points on the afternoon.
Higgins led the team with a season-high 14 points on 7-10 shooting while also adding seven rebounds.
Reinschmidt followed next with 13 points on 4-13 shooting. The junior added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals with no turnovers on offense.
Becken and Reynolds each scored 12 points a piece, and they combined for six of the team's 14 three-point baskets made. Becken was 4-7 from long range and Reynolds finished shooting 2-3 from downtown.
All told, seven different Wolves made a three-point basket in the win.
The Wolves will be in action again next Saturday, when they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to battle with the University of Mary Marauders in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
