Wolves lose battle with Bulldogs in OT

DULUTH, Minn. -  It was ugly, and the Northern State University women's basketball team was not able to overcome a season-high 25 turnovers and fell to the home Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs 67-63 in overtime Saturday night in Duluth, Minn.

The loss snaps the Wolves five-game winning streak and drops the Wolves back to 8-8 overall on the year, and 4-5 in the NSIC.

The Wolves entered halftime trailing 23-29 but came back with a strong second-half to battle back to take a one point lead 56-55 with 42 seconds remaining.  Senior Lennea Mueller made a free throw to put the Wolves up by two with 18 seconds to go, but the Bulldogs' Kelsey Hewitt nailed a jumper to tied the game up with seven seconds to go.  Mueller's shot at the buzzer missed to send the game into overtime. 

In overtime, the Wolves committed a lot of fouls and the Bulldogs were able to make their foul shots to put the game away down the stretch to earn a 67-63 NSIC victory.

Sophomore Emily Becken led the team with 17 points on 7-17 shooting from the floor, including 3-9 from three-point land.  The sophomore also ties her career-high with eight rebounds and also added four assists.

Senior Lennea Mueller tied her career-high with 15 points on 5-13 shooting, and she recorded a career-high eight rebounds in the loss.  She finished 2-4 from three-point range and added three assists on the night.

Junior Krista Rabenberg finished with 15 points on 6-10 shooting from the floor and added five rebounds.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
