Wolves Fall to Warriors at Home 71-61

ABERDEEN, S.D. – A Winona State team that lives and dies by the three pointer, lived to fight another day Friday at Wachs Arena, by knocking in 10 of their 20 attempts from deep in defeating the Northern State Wolves by a 71-61 final in front of 3,154 fans in Aberdeen, S.D.

With the loss the Wolves fall to 11-10 overall and 7-7 in the Northern Sun, and the Warriors improve to 16-5 overall and 9-5 in the conference with the 10-point victory.

The Wolves put together one of their better shooting nights of the season in knocking in 23-53 total attempts (43.4%) including 2-5 from behind the three point line.  The Warriors countered that by shooting 24-52 (46.2%) including the afore mentioned 10-20 from the three point line.

Offensively, the Wolves were led by freshman Mikayla Barondeau's team-leading 16 points and seven rebounds which also tied for the team lead.  Krista Rabenberg knocked in 12 points and grabbed five boards of her own.  Maggie Bryant had six points, five assists, and tied with Barondeau for the team rebounding lead with seven.

The Warriors were led by Jenny Steffen's 21 points that came predominantly on her 5-8 shooting from three point range.

The Wolves look to rebound tomorrow night when they host Upper Iowa University to close out their two-game home stand.  The Peacocks lost to the University of Mary by a 79-63 final Friday evening, and fall to 5-16 overall and 1-13 in the NSIC with their loss on Friday.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
