ABERDEEN, S.D. – Turnovers once again proved costly for the Northern State University women's basketball team Wednesday, when the Dragons of Minnesota State-Moorhead used them to their advantage in a 64-48 win over the Wolves in front of 2,313 fans at Wachs Arena.
With the loss the Wolves fall to 12-14 overall on the year and 8-11 in the Northern sun and are mathematically eliminated from participating in the NSIC tournament.
The Wolves continued their recent shooting woes of late, going 16-49 from the field (32.7%) including 5-15 from behind the three point line (33.3%). Their 48-point effort is tied for their third lowest total of the year with their first game of the year, a loss against Colorado School of Mines.
The Dragons shot 23-63 from the field (36.5%) and 7-24 from behind the three point line (29.2%). They were led by Meghan Rettke's double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds on 7-15 shooting from the field.
Sophomore
Krista Rabenberg led the Wolves in scoring with 13 points on 5-10 shooting, and also had five rebounds and two blocks on the night. Freshman
Emily Becken was next in line on the Wolves scoring list, with 12 points on 3-9 shooting, including 2-4 from deep. Becken also recorded seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 29 minutes of action.
The Wolves will close out their season Saturday in Marshall, Minn. when they take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. The Mustangs were 67-62 winners over Wayne State Wednesday night.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
