CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Northern State University women's basketball team rebounded from Friday's loss to win in overwhelming fashion over the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles Saturday by an 80-51 score.
With the win the Wolves improve to 11-9 on the year and 7-6 in the NSIC. Minnesota Crookston drops to 8-12 overall and 4-9 in the Northern Sun.
The 80-point output by the Wolves is their third-highest scoring game of the season, and with the win, improve to 7-2 in games following a loss this season and are now 8-2 against the Golden Eagles in their last 10 meetings.
As a team, the Wolves shot 50 percent from the field, including 6-18 from the three point line. This is their best shooting night as a whole this season, and is the only time all year they have shot at least 50 percent as a team. The Wolves were efficient on both ends of the floor in holding their opponents to 34.1 percent shooting. The Golden Eagles' 51 points is the second-lowest score the Wolves have held their opponents to this season.
Northern State freshman
Emily Becken led the charge with her career-high 18 points on 7-9 shooting, including 3-3 from behind the three point line. Becken also had four assists, two steals, and one block in 24 minutes of action. Fellow freshman
Jenna Higgins followed Becken in the scoring lead for the Wolves as she recorded nine points on 4-6 shooting.
The Wolves return home next weekend to the friendly confines of Wachs Arena to take on the Winona State Warriors on Friday, and the Upper Iowa Peacocks on Saturday.
