ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Northern State University women's basketball team headed to St. Cloud, Minnesota Saturday for the second game of their four-game Minnesota road trip, and lost a battle with a pesky St. Cloud State Husky team by a 73-54 score.
The loss drops the Wolves to 10-8 overall on the year and 6-5 in the Northern Sun. The Husky win improves their squad's record to 16-2 overall and 9-2 in the NSIC.
The Huskies led from the beginning to the end of the game, jumping out to a 20-7 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest. They entered halftime with a 38-21 lead and increased their lead to as much as 23 points at one point in the second half.
Mikayla Barondeau was the lone member of the Wolves squad to get into double-figures on the night as she recorded 12 points to go with five rebounds and one assist on 4-8 shooting, including 2-2 from behind the three-point line.
Krista Rabenberg had a team-leading six rebounds to go with nine points, two assists, and two blocks.
The Wolves committed 19 turnovers in the game, which is tied for the second-highest total by the team on the year. Prior to this weekend the Wolves were 16th in the NCAA for Division II teams, committing only 15.4 turnovers per game.
The Wolves were 3-5 on three-pointers during the game for 60 percent, which is their second highest team shooting percentage from deep on the year.
The Wolves are now 4-6 on the year in games following a win.
The Wolves continue their Minnesota road trip next weekend January 30-31, as they take on Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Friday, and Minnesota Crookston on Saturday.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
