ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northern State University women's basketball team mixed stellar defense with timely shooting in earning their tenth victory of the season Friday, as they defeated the Concordia University Golden Bears 62-53 in St. Paul, Minn.
With the win the Wolves improve to 10-7 overall on the year and 6-4 in the Northern Sun. The loss drops the Golden Bears to 13-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
The Wolves win was highlighted by tandem double-doubles from
Mikayla Barondeau and
Krista Rabenberg for the second time in three games. Barondeau was the star of the game as she had a season and career-high 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds, three steals, and one assist, as well as going 10-10 from the free throw line. Rabenberg had 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with a game-high four blocks.
Barondeau's 26 points is the highest for a member of the Wolves since
Noelle Hall's 29 points against Bemidji State on January 11th, 2008.
Candace Olstad led the Bears in scoring with 17 points and Gillian Bjerke led the host team in rebounds with 10.
The Wolves improve to 6-1 on the season following a loss.
The Wolves continue their road trip tomorrow when they travel up to St. Cloud, Minn. for to tangle with the St. Cloud State Huskies. The Huskies are 15-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play, and were 87-74 winners over the University of Mary on Friday night.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
