SIOUX CITY RELAYS COMPLETE RESULTS
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - NSU's ten relay squads all finished in the top six of their events, making Northern State the most dominant school at the 2008 Sioux City Relays, held last weekend in Sioux City, Iowa. Five of NSU's relay teams have been invited to the Drake Relays and
Jake Hamik is one of three non-Division I athletes invited for the 400m hurdles. It was the best day of the outdoor season yet for the Wolves.
Northern State's men's 4x400m relay team repeated as titleholders at the Sioux City Relays, running a season best time of 3:18.46. The team is comprised of
Taylor Ford,
Jared Mack,
Bill Cameron and
Jake Hamik. The Wolves also took first place in the men's sprint medley as
Brian Jark,
Kyle Weisbeck,
Trevor Steen and Ford completed the race in 3:35.47. The NSU men took second in the distance medley and 4x100 relay.
The Northern women finished in second place in the 4x800m relay.
Danielle Nickolas ran the lead leg, followed by
Katy Hilton,
Toni Fritz and
Jenny Baus, finishing with a time of 9:44.84. The women took third place in the 4x400m relay and the sprint medley.
Hamik had a good day in the 400m hurdles, improving his NCAA provisional mark to 53.02s and winning his third straight 400m hurdle title at the Sioux City Relays. He has been invited to the University/College Invitational for the event at the Drake Relays. Of the 22 invited, Hamik is one of only three athletes that are NOT NCAA Division I athletes. Hamik also took third in the 110m hurdles (14.86s)
The Wolves had a 1-2 punch in the 400m hurdles, as teammate
Bill Cameron secured second place with an NCAA provisional time of 53.16s. Cameron took fourth place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.97s.
Trevor Steen finished in seventh place in the event (15.58s).
Northern's distance runners have a very strong meet. In the men's 10,000m run,
Danny Scott took second place,
Matt Scott took fourth, and
Sergio Fox took seventh.
John Rawerts finished the 5,000m run in seventh place, while
Matt Walberg won the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:34.65. On the women's side,
Kari Linneman took sixth place in the 10,000m run and
Valerie Moore took ninth place in the 5,000m run.
Marisa Aldinger was a top finisher in the field events, winning the long jump with a personal best mark of 17 feet, 9.5 inches.
Ross Pfeifle cleared 15 feet in the men's pole vault for the first time this season to take third place.
In throwing events,
Lance York broke the 50 foot barrier for the first time this outdoor season, throwing the shot 50 feet, 4.75 inches for second place.
Amanda Madden had two top five finishes, taking second in the hammer throw (159ft, 5in) and fifth in the discus (133ft, 4in).
