ST. PAUL, Minn. - Cold shooting haunted the Wolves in 79-50 loss to #5 Concordia-St. Paul Saturday night. The Northern State Wolves shot only 38.5% for the game and had only one player in double figures. Krista Rabenberg was the leading scorer coming off the bench for a career high ten points, making 5-of-8 shots. Amanda Glenz finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds in the game. The Wolves fall to 9-15 overall and 5-10 in the NSIC. The almost flawless Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears improve to 22-1 overall and 13-1 in the NSIC.
The Wolves started the first half on their heels. The fierce Concordia-St. Paul defense forced Northern to 11 first half turnovers and three shot clock violations. A Jaclyn Arns jumper at the 7:30 mark brought the Wolves to within eight at a score of 9-17 . For the next six and a half minutes, the Wolves went ice cold which allowed the Golden Bears to attack with a 13-0 run. A jumper by Candace Olstad put the Bears up 27-9 with two minutes left in the half. The Wolves then had eight points in the final minute, including a last second three pointer by Ryanne Brockhaus The Wolves shot 29% going 7-of-24 from the floor in the first half. The hot shooting Bears had seven three pointers in the first half, shooting 7-of-15 from behind the arc. They shot 33% from the field and outrebounded the Wolves.
The Bears started the second half much like the first with a three pointer by Kelly Lund in the first minute of play. They would lead by as many as 31 in the second half, but a put-back by Rabenberg at the 13 minute mark brough the Wolves within 19, 49-31. The Wolves kept competing, but the Golden Bears' hot shooting and tenacious defense would be too much for Northern State. The Wolves fell 79-50 to Concordia.
The Wolves were held to 38.5% for the game, knocking down 20-of-52 shots they put up. They were a cold 4-of-22 from the three point arc and 6-of-16 from the free throw line. NSU was outrebounded for the second consecutive time this weekend but did get some good production from their bench. The bench put in 17 of the 50 points for the Wolves. Rabenberg came off the bench and was the leading scorer with 10 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Noelle Hall had 8 points and a team high 11 rebounds. Glenz finished the game with 9 points and 6 points.
The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears shot 25-0f-63 from the floor and 53.8% from behind the arc, connecting on 14-of-26 shots they launched. The Bears had four players in double figures with Kelly Lund leading the way with 19 points, shooting 5-of-13 from the floor. Candace Olstad had 13 points, 5-of-11 for the game. Katie LaViolette finished with a game high 10 assists.
The Northern State Wolves will be back home next weekend hosting Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Both games will tip off at 6:00 pm.
