BOX SCORE

FAYETTE, Iowa -  Upper Iowa came out with guns blazing and hung on to a 80-59 win over the Northern State Wolves to record their second consecutive NSIC victory.  Ryanne Brockhaus was the one bright spot for the Wolves, finishing with a career high 20 points.  She shot 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.  The Warriors are now 6-17 on the season and 2-9 in conference play. Northern State is 8-12 and 4-7 in the NSIC.

Despite Northern State's leading scorer, Noelle Hall, sitting 19 minutes in the first half due to two early fouls in the first minute of play, the Wolves still managed to keep the game interesting during the first half of play. The Peacocks, who picked up their first conference win Friday night, came out on fire. Christa Hammel had 6 early points and a lay-up from Kim Thompson put the Peacocks up by five with 5 minutes left in the half. The Wolves responded with a three pointer from Ashley Genske and a pair of free throws from both Ryanne Brockhaus and Jacyln Arns. The Wolves were down by one at halftime, 43-33.

With back to back baskets from the Wolves, they took a 3 point lead early in the second half, however this lead would be short-lived. The Peacocks went on a 15-2 run to lead 51-39 at the 12 minute mark.  Brockhaus responded with a 3 pointer to cut the lead to nine, but that is the closest the Wolves would get. The next 10 minutes would be all downhill for the Wolves. The Peacocks shot lights out and never looked back.  A 60.6% second half shooting figure led UIU to their second conference win, 80-59 over the Northern State Wolves.

The Wolves shot 34% from the field for the game, their second lowest shooting percentage this season.  They were also outrebounded by the Peacocks 36-32, only the fourth time this season that NSU fell behind in rebounds. Brockhaus finished the game with a career high 20 points, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Samantha Gacke finished with 10 points and recorded a new career high with 5 rebounds. Jaclyn Arns also finished with 10 points, shooting 3-of-9 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Hall  was held to a season low 4 points and 3 rebounds.

Christa Hammel led the Peacocks with 20 points, shooting 7- of 13, and recorded another career double double with 10 rebounds. The Peacocks shot an unprecidented 50% from the field for the game connecting on 31 of 62 field goals. Andrea Downs finished the game with 12 points and 5 assists, while teammate Sara Best finished with a game high 7 assists.

The Wolves are back at home next weekend to take on Wayne State Friday night and Southwest Minnesota State Saturday night, both games at 6pm.
