WAYNE, Neb. - A match filled with blocks and digs from both teams resulted in a 3-0 win for Wayne State College over Northern State on Saturday afternoon. WSC (9-5, 2-1 NSIC) edged out the win despite hitting just .076 in the match. Northern is now 7-4 on the season and 2-2 in the league. They return to Wachs Arena on Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup with South Dakota.
The two teams hit roughly the same on the match, with both squads posting sub-.100 numbers in three games played. The name of the game was blocking and digging, with both teams totaling more than ten team blocks and 100 + digs. Northern eged out the Wildcats in both respects, posting a season high 16 blocks and going over the century mark in digs for the third time this season with 109. The Wolves had ten service errors.
Redshirt-freshman Betsy Moorman had nine block assists on the afternoon, the second highest blocking figures posted by a Wolves player this season (Moorman had 11 blocks against NW Missouri State).
Jill Rasmussen pitched in with seven block assists, followed by
Stephanie Perez with five and
Kelsey Aden with four.
Melanie Perez led all players with 38 digs. She was followed by
Stephanie Nygaard with 27 and and
Stephanie Perez with 23. Leading the Wolves on offense was Aden with eight kills.
The Wildcats had three players with double figures in kills. They had five players post ten or more digs and Emily Schroeder topped all players with ten block assists in the match.
