MARSHALL, Minn. - The Northern State women's basketball team (3-1) shot a fiery 58.5 percent from the field in a 68-54 win over Dakota State (5-2) on Friday evening. The Wolves were virtually stopless in the first half, where they hit 19-of-28 field goals to take a halftime lead. The Wolves continue play at the SMSU Invite in Marshall, Minn. tomorrow afternoon.
The Wolves led 41-36 at the half while shooting hot from the field. Turnovers kept the game within a reasonable margin, as Northern committed 11 in the first half.
Noelle Hall was the go-to player for NSU in the half. She hit 9-of-12 field goals for 19 first half points.
Northern's leading scorers, Hall and
Jaclyn Arns, scored ten of the team's first 12 points in the second half. The Wolves went up by double figures, 55-44, by the midpoint of the half and maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. Their largest lead came at the 2:36 mark with a
Kimberly Lewis free throw, 64-49.
Hall completed the season's third double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 13-of-22 from the field. Arns was 7-of-11 shooting and had 16 points and three assists against the Trojans.
Amanda Glenz rounded out NSU's double figure scoring with ten points. She also had three assists and two steals.
The Wolves hit 31-of-53 shots for 58.5 percent shooting from the field. They dominated the rebounds by a margin of +11 (37-26) and had 20 assists in the game. Their turnover mark ran up to 21.
Laura Tewes had 17 points and ten rebounds for Dakota State. Her team shot 34.0 percent from the field, including a rough 7-of-26 second half (26.9%). The Trojans proved to be effective from the free throw line, however, where they hit 13 of 15 shots.
The Wolves are set to play Mayville State at the R/A Facility tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
