Prep: James Burks is a 5-foot-8, 165-pound wrestler out of Harry A. Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the Bulldogs under the direction of head coach Wes Boehm. Burks holds a career record of 216-9 and holds the career wins record for the state of Nebraska. He was a 4-time Nebraska State Champion going 60-0 his senior year, and is currently ranked nationally by both WIN Magazine (#6) and Intermat Wrestle (#17). Burks is also a member of the MWC club, where he is a 2018 UWW Cadet National Champion and USA World Team Member. Burks finished third overall at the Fargo Greco Nationals and placed second at the NHSCA Senior Nationals in Virginia Beach. In the summer of 2019, Burks won the Fargo Greco National Championship at 152-pounds. He was also a member of the Burke HS state championship football team. He is the son of Kolina Rieper.
