Tucson, A.Z. – A powerful fifth and seventh inning wasn't enough for the Northern State University baseball team as they fell, 16-13, to Carthage College. The Wolves racked up 13 runs on 11 hits, but an early deficit to the Firebirds proved too much to overcome. Jordan Hull spearheaded the offense for NSU, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Carthage College was the first to score after a scoreless first inning, with two runs followed by five runs in the third
• The Firebirds added three more runs off a home run in the fourth inning to lead by ten
• In the bottom of the fifth, Jack Weidner scored on a wild pitch, followed by a double by Jordan Hull that scored Nicholas Ochoa
• Jonah Schmidt kept the Wolves rolling in the fifth with a single to right field, with Hull and Nick Friedges scoring on an error on the play to trail by six
• Michael Benevides grounded out to the shortstop while Schmidt scored to cut the lead in half
• Off a single to right field by Brennan Phillips, Dylan Soulek scored, followed by Castellanos scoring on a wild pitch
• Hull closed out the explosive fifth inning with a single to right field that scored Ochoa and Phillips to trail by one
• The Firebirds responded with five runs in the top of the sixth to lead by six runs
• In the bottom of the seventh, Phillips found a hole on the right side for a single that scored Castellanos to trail by five
• Hull knocked his second double of the day, which scored Phillips in the seventh, followed by a single by Schmidt that scored Hull and Ochoa to trail by two
• In the top of the ninth, Carthage College extended their lead by one
• NSU tallied 13 runs off of 11 hits on the day, along with one error
• Carson Zimmel recorded the loss in 3.0 innings pitched with one strikeout against 19 batters
