Aberdeen, S.D. – In their NSIC opening contest on Wednesday evening, the Northern State University men's basketball team grinded to their first win of the 2025 season and Matt Wilber's career with the Wolves. Northern led 41-32 at the half and held a Jamestown comeback at bay in the second, securing a 3-point victory over the Jimmies.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves broke into the win column with 5-of-7 players scoring in double figures against the Jimmies
  • Northern led the game shooting 39.4% from the floor and 31.4% from the 3-point line, knocking down 11 from beyond the arc
  • NSU tallied 42 rebounds, while UJ notched a game leading 48, and added a game leading and season best 17 assists
  • In addition, the Wolves recorded four steals and three blocks, forcing 11 turnovers by the Jimmies
  • Northern notched 22 points in the paint, a season high 21 points off the bench, 12 fast break points, nine points off turnovers, and eight second chance points
  • Cameron Mercadel led the team in the win with 15 points, all of which coming from 3-point land
  • Benjamin Bowen and Marshawn Smith followed with 11 points each, with Smith leading the team off the bench
  • Tobi Obiora and James Glenn rounded out the double figure scorers with ten points apiece
  • Joshua Book led the team at the rim with 11 defensive boards and added nine points, while Ty Rogers tallied eight points in the win
  • Obiora and Smith led the team in efficiency, knocking down 5-of-8 and 5-of-9 from the floor respectively, while Glenn dished out a team leading six assists followed by Book with four
