WOLVES LOSE IN OVERTIME TO GORILLAS

KEARNEY, Neb. – Northern State lost their opening game of the season to Pittsburg State 72-70. In the overtime thriller, the Wolves shot 40% (26-65) from the field and 35.5% (10-17) from beyond the arc. As a team, NSU recorded 70 points, 38 rebounds, 13 assists, six steals and four blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After ending the first quarter 19-13 in favor of the Gorillas, the Wolves found their footing, outscoring their opponent 18-7 in the second quarter and went into the second half leading 31-26
  • For the Wolves, Izzy Moore led the charge with 19 points and five rebounds, shooting 52.9% from the field, while Morgan Fiedler tallied 16 points, two boards, six assists and three steals while shooting 40% from three and 43.8% from the floor
  • Northern State and Pittsburg State fought back-and-forth throughout the second half, earning nine lead changes each throughout the game
  • With less than 20 seconds to go in the fourth, PSU's Hannah Miller went to the line for two and gave the Gorillas a three-point lead, but Fiedler responded with a three-pointer with just a few seconds left to send the game into overtime
  • After fighting back-and-forth for the first four minutes of OT, Pittsburg State took their last lead of the game by way of free throws and coasted to the win
  • Telia Graham led the team in rebounds with eight on the night, while Taylor Tool and Moore rallied for five apiece
