Home Tilt Kicks Off for Northern State Softball

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team is set for a pair of home doubleheaders this week. Northern will host Minot State at 12 and 2 p.m. on Wednesday and Southwest Minnesota State at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday from Koehler Hall of Fame Field. Promotions are planned for each day and outlined in the section below.
 
GAME & FAN INFORMATION

  • Wednesday's contest is the Wolves annual Mental Health Awareness Game
    • Northern will wear specialty jerseys and the NSU Counseling Center will be in attendance
  • The first 100 fans to Saturday's contest will receive free Cracker Jack boxes, with one lucky person winning a Northern State Prize Pack
  • Please be advised that the restroom facilities will be open in the second floor of Dacotah Bank Stadium for all fans
 
NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves enter the week with an 18-16 record overall and 4-10 mark in the Northern Sun
  • NSU is hitting .321 with 314 hits, 60 doubles, eight triples, 11 homeruns, 38 stolen bases, 165 RBI, and 176 runs scored
  • Lexi Chase leads the offense with a .386 averaged, followed by Claire Zbylut with a team leading 43 hits, nine doubles, four homeruns, and 28 RBI
  • The pitching staff posts a 3.23 ERA through 225.1 innings pitched with 191 strikeouts and a .260 opponent batting average
  • Chase leads the staff with six wins and 65 strikeouts, while Mckenzie Wanner adds five wins and a team low 3.02 ERA
 
MINOT STATE STORYLINES
  • The Beavers head to Aberdeen with a 13-11 record overall and 8-4 mark in the NSIC
  • Minot State is hitting .279 with 173 hits, 41 doubles, seven triples, six homeruns, 44 stolen bases, 101 RBI, and 106 runs scored
  • Brooklyn Morrison leads the offense with a .356 average and is one of three players with a team best 21 hits, alongside Abbey Kelley and Abby Lohse
  • The MSU staff holds a 2.93 ERA through 155.1 innings pitched with 78 strikeouts and a .276 opponent batting average
  • Gabi Dawyduk and Reegan Floyd each have four wins on the year with Dawyduk holding a 2.27 ERA and Floyd holing a 2.44 ERA
  • Minot State is led by head coach Sal Rodriguez in his first season at the helm
 
LAST MEETING
  • The Wolves and Beavers split their 2023 contest with a 5-1 Minot victory in game one and 10-5 Northern State win in game two
  • NSU is 19-11 all-time against MiSU
 
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES
  • The Mustangs will face Wayne State on Wednesday in mid-week action, prior to matching up with the Wolves
  • SMSU is 15-22 overall and 6-8 in the Northern Sun
  • Southwest is hitting .253 with 234 hits, 30 doubles, five triples, five homeruns, 52 stolen bases, 103 RBI, and 118 runs scored
  • Jillian Noel leads the offense with a .346 average, 37 hits, and 27 RBI
  • The SMSU pitching staff posts a 4.04 ERA through 235.2 innings pitched with 149 strikeouts and a .298 opponent batting average
  • Karlie Miller leads the staff with an 8-11 record, 3.45 ERA, and 91 strikeouts this season
  • The Mustangs are led by head coach Bailey Bouman in her sixth season at the helm
 
LAST MEETING
  • The Wolves swept the Mustangs with scores of 4-2 and 2-1 in the spring of 2023
