Wolves Split the Day Against The Tigers in Non-Conference Action

Mitchell, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team took down Dakota Wesleyan, 10-7 in game one of the double header but fell short in game two, 13-10. NSU recorded 20 runs off of 18 hits on the day. Karson Hesser led the way for the Wolves going 6-for-8 along with three Wolves hitting homeruns in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • Dakota Wesleyan kicked off the day with two runs in the first inning
  • The Wolves responded back in the second inning as Michael Benevides and Jonah Schmidt pulled off a double steal that scored Schmidt
  • Xander Paar kept the offense rolling for NSU with a single through the left side to scored Benevides that tied the game
  • Paar scored to take lead from Northern after a single up the middle by Brennan Phillips
  • Karson Hesser knocked one to right center for a double that scored Phillips and Jackson Meyers to close out the second inning
  • After a scoreless third inning, Meyers stole home while Phillips stole advanced to second; Hesser singled that scored Phillips to extend NSU's lead by five runs
  • DWU chipped away from the deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth
  • The Wolves added two runs as Paar scored on a pass ball and Meyers scored on a sacrifice fly by Hesser in the sixth inning
  • After a single to right field by Jack Weidner, Meyers scored to extend the lad by six runs
  • The Tigers add three runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning to trail by three
  • The Wolves recorded ten runs off of ten hit, seven stolen bases, and one error in the game

  • Northern State was the first to score on a bases load walk by Brent Hokeness that scored Brennan Phillips to open the game
  • Dakota Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom of the first with four runs
  • Jack Weidner drove one over left center for a home run to the DWU's lead in half in the top of the third inning
  • The Tigers extended their lead with three runs in the third and fourth inning
  • Karson Hesser kicked off the fifth inning with a homerun down the right field line that score Nick Friedges
  • Xander Paar kept the Wolves rolling with a single down the right side that scored Weidner; Jackson Meyers singled to right field to score Schmidt to trail by one run in the top of the fifth

NORTHERN STATE STATISTICAL STANDOUTS UP NEXT
Northern State returns to NSIC action this weekend against Winona State. The games have been moved to Friday and Saturday for two days of double headers. The first and second game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15th with the final two game starting at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th from Sioux Falls at the Sanford Diamonds.
