Northern State Set for 4-Games in Nelson Family Dome

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team continues dome action this Friday and Saturday in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Wolves will face Valley City State and Dickinson State and 4 and 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Valley City State and Jamestown at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves head north with a 5-1 record overall, opening 2024 last Friday through Sunday in St. Cloud
  • Lexi Chase leads seven Wolves hitting above .300 this season with a .571 average
  • Claire Zbylut tallied a team leading nine hits last weekend, including two homeruns and one double, and leads NSU with eight RBI
  • Abby Rux and Mckenzie Wanner each captured two wins in the circle last weekend
  • Rux also tallied a save and leads the staff with a 1.47 ERA and .204 opponent batting average
  • Chase added one win and leads the team with 16 strikeouts
 
VALLEY CITY STATE STORYLINES
  • The Vikings opened their season last weekend in Minot, going 1-2 with a win over Dakota Wesleyan
  • Valley City was picked second in the NSAA Preseason Coaches' Poll
  • Logan Gronberg leads the team hitting .444 through the first three games with four hits, including three doubles, and five RBI
  • Maddy Zander threw the win against the Tigers and leads the staff with nine strikeouts, a 5.25 ERA, and .324 opponent batting average
  • The Vikings are led by head coach Matt Gable in his second season
 
LAST MEETING
  • Northern State tallied a 12-11, 9-inning victory over Valley City State in the spring of 2023
  • The Wolves are 27-29 all-time versus the Vikings
 
DICKINSON STATE STORYLINES
  • The Blue Hawks will open their season against the Wolves on Friday
  • Dickinson State was picked third in the NSAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, behind Bellevue and Valley City State
  • The Blue Hawks went 25-25 overall in the spring of 2023
  • DSU is led by head coach Kristen Fleury in her 13th season at the helm
 
LAST MEETING
  • The Wolves and Blue Hawks last faced off in the spring of 2022 with Northern notching a 5-1 victory
  • NSU is 1-2 all-time versus DSU
 
JAMESTOWN STORYLINES
  • The Jimmies will open their season on Tuesday at Minot State
  • UJ went 24-22 in the spring of 2023 and 11-11 in the GPAC
  • The Jimmies were picked fourth in the GPAC Preseason Coaches' Poll
  • Jamestown is led by head coach Kevin Gall in his 22nd season at the helm

  • The Wolves defeated the Jimmie 8-5 in February of 2023
