SEASON PRIMER | Wolves Softball Opens 2024 in One Week

The Northern State University softball team enters the 2024 season picked 12th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wolves tallied 62 points in the preseason poll, with Claire Zbylut and Lexi Chase selected as the team's players to watch this spring. NSU officially opens the 2024 season next Friday through Sunday, February 2-4, from the St. Cloud State Dome against Black Hills State, Sioux Falls, Bemidji State, and St. Cloud State. The Wolves posted a 14-34 record overall and 8-20 mark in the NSIC in the spring of 2023. Northern was led by true freshman Kyra Knudtson hitting .336 with 48 hits, 12 doubles, three homeruns, 17 runs scored, and 14 RBI. She was one of just two Wolves to appear in every contest, as well as outfield convert Avarie Eagle.

This team has been working extremally hard this fall with goals for the 2024 season driving them. They are excited to begin and compete on the beautiful Koehler Hall of Fame Field.”

Lexi Chase - Pitcher to Watch

  • 2023 Offensive Stats: 9 hits, 4 doubles, 7 RBI, 8 runs scored

 

“Lexi is in her second year at NSU and she is committed to bettering herself and her teammates by being dedicated and disciplined. Lexi gets it done in the classroom as well as she is pursuing a degree in Human Performance with acceptance into Physical Therapy schools following graduation this spring. Lexi will leave a lasting impact as a two-year captain for our program.”

Claire Zbylut - Player to Watch

  • 2023 Stats: .294 avg, .357 ob%, .413 slg%, 20 RBI, 3 HR, 5 SB
  • 2 year stater for the Wolves

 

"Claire brings a variety of strengths to our team with her maturity, passion, and unrivaled drive. Claire can assist the team with her hitting, speed, and defense. She has a love for the game that is palpable in her competitive drive and positive presence. Claire gets it done in the classroom as well by assisting in the team's 3.5 GPA this fall. Claire is one of the hardest working player's we have had at Northern."
