NSIC Preseason poll results, season previews, coaches quotes, and more!

The Northern State University baseball team enters the 2024 season picked 13th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wolves tallied 31 points in the preseason poll, while Max Otto and Karson Hesser were selected as the team's players to watch this spring. NSU officially opens the 2024 season February 23-25 at William Jewell for a 4-game series. For full information on the NSIC Preseason Release click here

The Wolves recorded an 11-31 record overall and 6-25 mark in the NSIC in the spring of 2023. Northern found success at the plate improving in 12 offensive categories from the previous spring. The Wolves racked up the most single season homeruns since 2016, runs per game since 2018, and doubles since 2019. In addition, Reece Ragatz tallied the highest homerun total of ten since the spring of 2017 with Jack Schmidt (10) and Lucas Lorenz (15).

Max Otto - Pitcher to Watch

RHP | Sr. | Delano, Minn.

  • 2023 Stats: 73.1 IP, 4.79 ERA, 76 SO, 1.15 WHIP, .247 Opp Avg
  • Led the 2023 staff in innings pitched, ERA, and WHIP
  • Ranked in the top-5 of the NSIC in innings pitched, walks allowed, and strikeouts

 

"Max is everything a coach could ask for in a pitcher. He has great mound presence, can throw multiple pitches for strikes, and gives us a chance to win every time he takes the mound. Max is also a tremendous leader and a guy our younger players can look up. Max has pitched a lot for us in his career and we look forward to seeing what type of year he can put together this season."

Karson Hesser - Player to Watch

  • 2023 Stats: .245 avg., .305 OBP, .358 SLG%, 4 HR, 22 RBI
  • Started all 42 games in 2023
  • Recorded ten multiple hit games in 2023

 

"Karson will be a player we foresee having a big role for our team this spring. He had a tremendous summer in the Northwoods League and carried that high-level play into the fall with us. Karson has been an everyday player for us the last three years and has grown into a great leader for our program. We expect Karson to be a guy we can count on in our lineup this season."
