Northern State Heads South for 11-Game Stretch

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team is set for a busy 8-day stretch in Kansas and Missouri facing off against William Jewell College, Central Missouri, Northeastern State, Central Oklahoma, Missouri Southern, and Pittsburg State.  The Wolves will play the 11-game stretch from March 12-19.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves enter their week down south with a 5-5 record this season
  • Northern is hitting .285 with a .427 slugging percentage and .350 on base percentage through their first ten games with 80 hits, 19 doubles, seven homeruns, 40 RBI, and 47 runs scored
  • Kyra Knudtson leads four starters hitting above .300 with a .464 average, notching a team leading 13 hits, four doubles, two homeruns, and nine runs scored
  • Tevan Bryant leads the team with nine RBI and adds two doubles, two homeruns, and three runs scored with a .321 average
  • Avarie Eagles is second on the team hitting .324 with 11 hits, four doubles, seven runs scored, and six RBI
  • Claire Zyblut rounds out the 300-hitters with a .320 average and is 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts

WILLIAM JEWELL STORYLINES – MARCH 12 @ 1/3 PM & MARCH 13 @ 1 PM
  • The Cardinals hold a 2-11 record this season
  • WJC is hitting .215 on the year with 68 hits, 15 doubles, four homeruns, 25 BRI, and 26 runs scored
  • Kenzie Stahl and Sophia Lopez lead the team hitting .333 and .324 respectively
  • The Cardinals pitching staff posts a 5.35 ERA through 83.2 innings pitched with 36 strikeouts and a .335 opponent batting average
  • Aliyah Santiago leads the staff with a 1.26 ERA and 1-1 record in four appearances
  • WJC is led by head coach Dustin Combs in his 17th season at the helm

  • The only match-up between the two programs dates back to 2007 with William Jewell notching a 9-0 victory
 
CENTRAL MISSOURI STORYLINES – MARCH 14 @ 3/5 PM
  • The Jennies will host Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State prior to their match-up with the Wolves
  • CMU is 12-5 overall this season
  • Central Missouri is hitting .307 as a team with 142 hits, 23 doubles, seven triples, eight homeruns, 83 RBI, and 100 runs scored
  • Makenzie McAtee leads five hitting above .300 this season with a .419 average
  • The pitching staff posts a 2.86 ERA through 110.0 innings pitched with 106 strikeouts and a .246 opponent average

  • Savannah Evans leads the team with a .480 average and .960 slugging percentage, while Chloe Bohuslavicky is hitting .365 with a .937 slugging percentage
  • The pair combine for 19 homeruns, 45 RBI, and 31 runs scored
  • The RiverHawk staff posts a 3.00 ERA through 133.0 innings pitched with 99 strikeouts and a .269 opponent batting average

  • The Brochnos will face off in seven contests before first pitch with the Wolves and hold a 14-3 record in 2023
  • UCO is currently ranked sixth in the NFCA Top-25 Poll
  • The Bronchos are hitting .324 this season with nearly 150 hits, 120 RBI, and 140 runs scored
  • Emily Deramus leads five hitting above .300 with a .414 averaging, notching a team best 24 hits, 21 RBI, six doubles, and five homeruns
  • The Central Oklahoma staff posts a 3.59 ERA through 113.0 innings pitched with 66 strikeouts and a .262 opponent batting average
  • Jordyn Pipkin is the ace in the circle with five wins, a 2.18 ERA, and .241 opponent average

MISSOURI SOUTHERN – MARCH 18 @ 5 PM
  • The Lions are slated for seven games prior to their match-up with the Wolves and hold a 14-5 record this season
  • Missouri Southern is hitting .315 as a team with nearly 200 hits, including 32 doubles and 22 homeruns
  • Leighton Withers leads the offensive attack with a .517 average, starting all 19 games for the Lions
  • The MSSU pitching staff posts a 3.24 ERA through 125.1 innings pitched with 95 strikeouts and a .266 opponent batting average

  • Paxton Hayes brings the fire power, leading the team with eight homeruns and 30 RBI with a .779 slugging percentage and .353 average
  • The Gorilla pitching staff posts a 3.22 ERA through 128.2 innings pitched with 112 strikeouts and a .251 opponent batting average
  • Hannah Harrison and Lilli Weir are the aces in the circle with six and seven wins on the year and a combined 102 strikeouts
  • The Gorillas are led by former Northern State head coach Jenny Fuller
