Wolves Send Three to USF Last Chance Invite

Aberdeen, S.D. – After their best finish at the NSIC Championships since 2017, the Northern State swim team will look to qualify three more swimmers for the NCAA Championships at this weekend's USF Last Chance Invite. Maddie Gonzales (200-yard backstroke), Haley Osborne (100 & 200-yard freestyle), and Delaney Ryken (50 & 100-yard freestyle) will compete for the Wolves on Saturday at the Midco Aquatic Center with a 10 a.m. start time scheduled for the meet.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Last weekend the Northern State swim team finished fifth place with 281 team points at the NSIC Championships in West Fargo, it was their best finish in the conference meet since a fourth place finish in 2017
  • Maddie Gonzales looks to hit the NCAA B-Cut time of 2:02.88 in the 200-yard backstroke this weekend, at the NSIC Championships she recorded a podium finish with a sixth place time of 2:06.43 in the event
  • Gonzales recorded a season-best time of 2:05.47 in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke, marking a 6.32 second improvement from her previous season-best set at the Dragon Invite; her personal-best time in the event is 2:03.57 at the 2022 NSIC Championships
  • Haley Osborne is looking for two NCAA B-Cut times this weekend, competing in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle which have qualifying times of 52.11 and 1:53.08 respectively; at the NSIC Championships she placed 17th in the 100-yard freestyle and earned a seventh place podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle, recording season-best times of 52.82 and 1:54.07 respectively
  • Osborne saw improvements of 2.54 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 4.73 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle this past weekend, after previously setting season-best times at the Augustana Invitational; her personal-best times in the event are 52.33 in the 100-yard freestyle and 1:52.45 in the 200-yard freestyle which both occurred at the 2022 NSIC Championships
  • Delaney Ryken is also looking for two NCAA B-Cut times this weekend, competing in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle which have qualifying times of 23.93 and 52.11 respectively; at the NSIC Championships she placed tenth in the 50-yard freestyle and 22nd in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 24.39 and 54.46 in the respective finals of each event, in the preliminaries of the 100-yard freestyle she swam to a time of 54.12
  • Ryken holds season-best times of 24.04 in the 50-yard freestyle and 52.87 in the 100-yard freestyle with both occurring at the Augustana Invitational; Ryken saw a 2.16 second improvement in her 50-yard freestyle time since last competing in the event at the UMary Pentathlon and also improved by 2.49 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle since last competing in the event at the SMSU Tri-Dual
