ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State's
Rachel Guthmiller (women's track and field) and
Luke Schroeder (men's track and field) have been named as the South Dakota Army National Guard Athletes of the Week for their athletic efforts last week.
Guthmiller won the lone women's conference championship for the Wolves, taking the crown in the javelin. The senior threw a provisional mark of 44.37m, scoring eight team points for NSU. Guthmiller defeated the runner-up by nearly two feet, tossing the mark on her fifth throw of the day. In addition, she took 14
th in the discus (41.55m) and 20
th in the hammer throw (42.11m).
Schroeder had an outstanding day for NSU on Saturday from the Championships. He opened the day finishing third in the 110m hurdles, followed by a conference championship in the 400m hurdles. The freshman tallied times of 14.64 in the 110m hurdles and 53.61 in the 400m hurdles. Schroeder was an all-conference honoree in both events, as well as a member of the fifth place 4x100m relay (42.16) and eighth place 4x400m relay (3:25.78).
