Northern State Fights the Elements to Win 16 Events from the Dewey Donat Classic

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams hosted the Dewey Donat Classic on a windy day from the Swisher Activities Complex. The Wolves recorded 16 event wins and 36 top-5 finishes from the meet, where they hosted athletes from Augustana, Bemidji State, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Dickinson State, Iowa Wesleyan, Jamestown, North Dakota State, Sioux Falls, U-Mary, Minnesota Crookston, Valley City State, and Waldorf.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jackson Willis closed out the decathlon with 5,679 points in second, notching marks of 17.33 in the 110m hurdles, 32.68m in the discus, 3.90m in the pole vault, 32.77m in the javelin, and 5:16.05 in the 1500m
  • Sean Juengst rounded out the top-10 of the decathlon with 4,799 points, recording marks of 19.80 in the 110m hurdles, 27.10m in the discus, 3.30m in the pole vault, 34.13m in the javelin, and 5:24.17 in the 1500m
  • Jonathan Burkhalter won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:09.72
  • The 4x100m relay team of JD Matehs, Luke Schroeder, Isaac Olson, and Seth Martens won the event with a time of 44.60
  • Jackson Harrison and Nathan Alto went one-two in the 1500m with times of 4:22.19 and 4:26.85
  • Schroeder went on to win the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.83
  • Chase Domier took home the top spot in the 400m with a time of 52.58, followed by Martens and Ronald Stephenson in second and fourth with times of 52.83 and 53.64
  • Burkhalter added his second win of the day in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:13.23
  • Dylan Schimke added a third place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:23.97, followed by Caleb Schlekeway in eighth with a time of 2:23.97
  • Tanner Berg opened the throwing events for the men, taking third in the discus with a 42.89m toss, followed by Austin Holt in fifth, throwing 41.90m
  • Nick Olson, McCaden Anderson, and Ethan Barnett took seventh through ninth in the discus with marks of 40.61m, 40.02m, and 38.52m respectively
  • Darrian Hood took fifth in the long jump with a 6.52m mark
  • Martens and Matehs took second and seventh in the 200m, running to times of 22.40 and 22.84
  • Rhaecine Sam won the 5000m with  time of 17:35.89
  • Diego Gallegos led the way in the javelin, throwing 36.80m in fourth overall
  • Berg went on to win the shot put, tossing 15.55m, with Barnett following in seventh place with a 12.55m throw
  • Sean Mhende and Hood took first and second in the triple jump with marks of 13.37m and 13.05m
  • Glen Quayle and Sam Tremelling added first and second place finishes in the pole vault, clearing 4.98m and 4.68m

  • Quayle broke his own school record in the pole vault, previously 4.92m, that he set to open the outdoor season
 
UP NEXT
Northern returns to action next week, competing in Iowa. The Wolves will take on the Drake Relays Thursday, April 28 – Saturday, April 30 and the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday, April 29.
