ermillion, S.D. – The Northern State University track and field teams opened the outdoor season earlier today at the USD Early Bird Meet. The Wolves recorded 19 top-10 finishes from the meet, as well as three provisional marks.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Jackson Harrison led the way for the Wolves in the 5000m, taking second with a time of 14:46.90, behind NSU alumni Riccardo Done
- Nathan Alto added a 13th place finish behind Harrison with a time of 15:50.75
- Luke Schroeder recorded a third place finish in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 54.48, while Joel Matehs took 13th with a time of 57.22 and Ronald Stephenson took 16th with a time of 59.49
- The 4x100m relay team of Matehs, Schroeder, Tafara Hondonga, and Seth Martens took sixth with a time of 42.42
- Glen Quayle and Sam Tremelling to third and ninth in the pole vault, clearing 4.92m (provisional mark and school record) and 4.32m respectively
- Rico Imus rounded out the pole vault crew with a 4.12m vault in 19th overall
- Jackson Willis landed in the top-20 of the long jump with a 6.48m mark
- Sean Mhende and Darrian Hood took eighth and 11th in the triple jump with marks of 14.06m and 13.25m
- Tanner Berg opened his outdoor season with an eighth place finish in the shot put, tossing 15.69m, and won the hammer with a provisional mark of 65.32m
- Nick Olson closed out the top-20 of the hammer in 19th with a 47.42m throw
- Austin Holt closed out the throwing events with a 19th place finish in the javelin, toss 40.33m
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Summer Carlson notched the first top-20 finish on the track, taking 19th in the 800m with a time of 2:23.26
- Mary Franssen added a top-20 finish of her own in the 1500m with a time of 4:52.06
- Megan Mooberry was the top Division II placer in the 5000m, taking second with a time of 17:34.03
- Megan Pickering and Victoria Kolbinger followed in the 5000m with times of 17:57.28 and 18:56.17 in fifth and 14th
- Shanice Burrell added a runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a provisional time of 14.03
- Renea Taylor and Isabel Kinzer added seventh and tenth place finishes in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:05.13 and 1:06.61 respectively
- The Wolves 4x100m relay team of Kinzer, Taylor, Burrell, and Shona Juliana took sixth with a time of 48.13, while the 4x400m squad of Kinzer, Carlson, Alli Jackson, and Taylor finished in third with a time of 4:01.30
- Kealy Hill tallied an eighth place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.61m, followed by Kenzee Danielson in ninth with a 3.46m mark
- Juliana added a fifth place finish in the long jump with 5.71m mark
- Alison Theis landed in the top-20 of the triple jump with a 9.82m mark
- Cassidy Gough led the throwers, taking 17th in the hammer with a 45.85m toss
- Rachel Guthmiller rounded out the throwing events with a third place finish in the javelin, tossing 41.53m
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Burrell's time of 14.03 in the 100m hurdles currently ranks fifth in the country
- Quayle landed in the top-10 nationally with his 4.92m pole vault mark
- His vault broke the previous school record of 4.90m set by assistant coach Wade Royer in 2010
- Berg's hammer throw of 65.32 ranks as the top in the country by nearly four meters
