Wolves Split Sunday Doubleheader at Washburn

Topeka, Kan. – The Northern State baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader against Washburn. The Wolves fell in the first game of the day 5-3 but rebounded to win the second game 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game 1
  • Washburn scored first in the bottom of the first inning, when Parker Dunn doubled to right center and scored Cal Watkins
  • The Ichabods added four runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as Cale Savage hit a 3-run homerun in the fourth and Brett Ingram hit a solo homerun in the fifth
  • The Northern State scored three runs in the eighth inning when Brandon Kusler grounded out to first base and scored Ramon Vega Jr.; the very next at bat Jack Paulson hit a double to left field to score Austin Portner and Isaiah Chevalier
  • Zach Carolin pitched three scoreless innings in relief to end the game for Northern, striking out two batters in the process
  • The Wolves scored their three runs on seven hits and committed one error defensively
  • Brian Baker suffered the loss in the game, pitching 5.0 innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits; he pitched scoreless innings in the second and third and threw a total of six strikeouts in the game
