Wolves Softball Set to Face Trio of Texas Programs

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team continues non-conference action this weekend from Canyon, Texas. The Wolves are slated for five games versus Texas Permian Basin, (RV) Texas A&M-Commerce, and the host No. 5 West Texas A&M.
 
NSU will face the Falcons at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and Sunday, the Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and the Buffs at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The weekend will be the first meetings between the Wolves and each program.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves enter the weekend with a 4-0 record overall
  • Northern is hitting .367 as a team with 44 hits, six doubles, and three homeruns
  • In addition, NSU posts a .492 slugging percentage and .429 on base percentage, notching 23 runs scored and 21 RBI
  • The Wolves pitching staff posts a 0.97 ERA through 29.0 innings pitched with a .140 opponent batting average and 40 strikeouts

  • UTPB is hitting .346 as a unit with 104 hits, 20 doubles, four triples, eight homeruns, 54 RBI, and 57 runs scored
  • The pitching staff posts a 3.57 ERA through 70.2 innings pitched with 56 strikeouts and a .230 opponent batting average
  • Valerie Gonzalez leads the team with 14 hits, while Sydney Bishop is hitting a team best .542 with 13 hits and eight RBI
  • Six of the starting unit is hitting above .300 this season
  • Destini Trahan leads the staff with a 1.59 ERA, 2-2 record, and 25 strikeouts this season
  • UTPB is led by head coach Tiala Tagaloa in her eighth season at the helm
 
(RV) TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE STORYLINES
  • The Lions enter the weekend with a 7-4 record in 2022, including a victory over No. 2 Augustana to open the year
  • TAMC is hitting .268 as a team with 78 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, three homeruns, 32 stolen bases, 44 RBI, and 50 runs scored
  • The Commerce pitching staffs holds a 2.93 ERA through 74.0 innings pitched with 70 strikeouts and a .246 opponent batting average
  • Leo Terry leads the team hitting .385 this season with 15 hits and 14 runs scored
  • Ayanna Williams is second on the team hitting .375 with a team leading 11 RBI, five doubles, and two homeruns

  • Brittini Rufus leads the offense with a .542 average and 13 hits
  • Ruby Salzman is second on the team with 11 hits, and leads the Buffs with ten runs scored and eight RBI
  • Heidi Vortherms and Emilee Wilson each have a 3-1 record this season, with Vortherms notching a team best 1.08 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 26.0 innings of work
