Wolves Set for NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State track and field trio of Tava Berg, Tanner Berg, and Jordyn Huneke will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships this Thursday and Saturday. The championships will be held May 27-29 in Allendale, Michigan at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium. Live video and results are available at the links above.  
 
NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • Tanner Berg will kick-off the week for the Wolves on Thursday, May 27th at 1 p.m. in the hammer throw
    • He threw a school record 68.60m earlier this season, which ranks him fourth nationally heading into the championships
  • Huneke will also compete on Thursday in the pole vault, which is slated to begin at 4:45 p.m.
    • She holds the tenth best mark in the country, clearing 4.10m. In addition, Huneke is the school record holder in the event
  • Tava Berg will be in action at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday in the high jump
    • She enters the competition with the 15th best mark in the country, jumping 1.73m
 
SCHOOL RECORD WATCH
  • Tanner Berg broke his own hammer throw record at the USD Early Bird Meet, throwing 65.83m (215-11.75) and for a second time at Wayne with a 68.60m (225-01.00) toss; his previous record set in 2019 was 61.60m
  • Jordyn Huneke broke Alli Arampatzis' pole vault record of 3.90m set in 2011, with a 3.91m (12-10.00) vault at the SD Challenge; she then re-broke the record at the Sioux City Relays, clearing 4.07m (13-04.25) and at the Wildcat Challenge, clearing 4.10m (13-05.25)
  • Shona Juliana broke the long jump school record with a 5.64m (18-06.00) at the NSU Open and re-broke it at the NSIC Outdoor Championships, jumping 5.72m (18-09.25); the record was previously held by Peggy Nordyke with a mark of 5.62m set in 1984
  • Tava Berg tallied a school record in the high jump at the Wildcat Challenge with a 1.73m (5-08.00) mark; the record was previously set by Royanne Ross in 1985 with a 1.72m jump
  • The team of 4x100m relay team of Isabel Kinzer, Shona Juliana, Makenna Larson, and Shanice Burrell broke the record of 47.44, set by Elizabeth Raecke, Toni-Ann Ingram, Madison Barnes, and Hanneke Oosterwegel in 2017, with a time of 47.25
  • Riccardo Done broke the school record in the 3000m steeplechase at the NSIC Outdoor Championships with a time of 9:08.88; the record was previously set by Matt Walberg with a time of 9:25.87
  • Shanice Burrell broke Hanneke Oosterwegel's 100m hurdle school record of 13.99 set in 2017, with a time of 13.94 at the NSIC Outdoor Championships
  • Juliana broke a 34-year old record in the triple jump, a mark of 11.51m (37-09.50) set by Monique Ryckman in 1987
